Martin Abellana was born in San Nicolas in 1904. A graduate of the Cebu Normal Institute, he taught in public and private schools for 30 years. He produced 22 novels, over 100 stories, as well as poems and plays. Among his novels are Kaulit sa Kalipay, Ang Kalayo sa Sulad, Tulisok sa Tanlag, Basuni sa Katingala, Awit sa Gugma, and others. He was LUDABI president from 1956-58 and editor of Ang Dagang Bisaya, the LUDABI publication.
