DLSU to host Vietnamese poet Nguyen Phan Que Mai for lecture/reading
DLSU Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center, in cooperation with The Literature Circle, invites students and teachers to Becoming Vietnamese– The Poetry of Nguyen Phan Que Mai, A Craft Lecture and Reading. This will be on 22 February 2012 (Wednesday), 11:20 am -12:50 pm at the Yuchengco Seminar Rooms 508-509, De La Salle University, 2401 Taft Avenue, Malate, Manila.
Nguyen Phan Que Mai was born in a small village in the North of Vietnam but grew up in the Mekong Delta, South of Vietnam. She is an advocate for women and children issues, and has a volunteer group that supports more than 3,000 children with cancer in the North of Vietnam. She has published three poetry collections and one travel book. Her awards include First Prize, Poetry Competition about 1,000 Years Hanoi, Poetry of the Year Award from the Hanoi Writers Association, as well as Poetry of the Year Award from the Hanoi Union of Literature and Arts Associations. Internationally, Ms. Nguyen’s poetry has been published in highly respected literary magazines such as The American Poetry Review, Red Wheel Barrow, and Great River Review, Consequence, and Words Without Border.
