Filipino love poems in TaTu (Tanghal-Tula) this February 24
On February 24, 7 p.m. in a show called TATU (Tanghal-Tula), today’s audience can watch performances of poems in Filipino, which taken together are expected to radiate a blend of the the lyric and the patriotic. It is a nod to the season of hearts and the national arts month celebration in UP Diliman. Some of the most admired authors and faculty members of the UP Department of Filipino are involved in the project, along with some musicians, actors, and guests who themselves are well known personalities in the literary community.
Creative performances of poems by Andres Bonifacio, Bienvenido Lumbera, Jose F. Lacaba, Lilia Quindoza Santiago, Manny Pambid, Eugene Evasco, Abet Umil, and other poets will be staged in the Teatro Hermogenes Ylagan, Bulwagang Rizal (Faculty Center), UP Diliman, Quezon City.
This event is part of Department of Filipino and Philippine Literature’s Tanghal-Likha (Talik), a program that showcases works by DFPP students, faculty members, and alumni.
The program includes the poems “Pag-ibig sa Tinubuang Lupa” by Bonifacio, “Paghihintay” by Lumbera, “Ang Kagila-gilalas na Pakikipagsapalaran ni Juan dela Cruz” by Lacaba, “Dung-Aw” by Santiago, “Awit ni Canuplin” by Pambid, a modern balagtasan, among others. Performance artists Vim Nadera, Omeng Rodriguez, Bing Veloso, Joey Vargas, UP Repertory Company, The Batutes and other talents promise an evening of poetic entertainment, song, shadow puppetry, theater, and literary interaction.
An open mike session follows the main program.
TATU is a contribution to UP Diliman Arts Festival and National Arts Month.
