poetry
a mentor marvelous
by Babeth
Lolarga
for Nieves Benito Epistola
generous to a fault
to sentimental washouts like me,
dare I intrude the sanctity
of your haven of a cottage?
one morn a week,
my feet automatically tread
the beaten path to your door
i knock, you open,
& that rotund face
so cherished creases
into a smile that chases
my mental goblins away.
surrogate aunt, older sister, teacher,
the burden of living lightens
with the words that spring
from your mind so deep.
i probe its caves & crevices,
& color spectacular i find.
humbly i ask,
what makes you
you?
