Dance of the Smoke Goddess
ni Dion Fernandez

Outstretched I greet a brass sun
As its rays of daylight wrap around
My fingers and swathe downwards,
Palm, elbow, shoulder.
Brick upon steel upon adobe walls
Shadows heave, twist into
Diagonal lines, dissolve
And melt away in my heaving
Form of liquid glass
Heartbeat screams start the rhythm
Of penetrating colors, gray black,
Blue, white, swirling mad
In pools of mirrored spirits, curves
Etched and forever frozen in
Poison layers of agate and crystal geode
Spinning, swirling, whirling
Dervish reaching effortlessly for a
Silver-black Ramadan moon
Facing this static sphere
In an intimate metal flamenco.
