Half Moon Over Durban
by Alfred A.Yuson

Half moon over Durban. Half moon over Durban.
On our first night first night, it’s out of sight
out of sight, out of might. Only giant electric
giraffes line the harbor the harbor, the long-necked
harbor of Durban, Durban. Fervor, fervor,
fervor takes a bright view of new, new, new
faces the way only poets carry new, new, new
faces even when they have yet to see the half moon
half moon half moon over Durban. Yet it appears
on the third night third night third night in a break
in the trees against the sky, the sky sky sky above
the campus the campus, where all of us, all of us
get into a rumpus, rumpus in the theater, theater,
theater theater theater for five nights, five nights,
five nights five nights five nights of new new new new
new poetry poet-ry! poet-ry! poet-ry! while outside
outside hides the half moon half moon half moon
over Durban Durban Durban. And I am half man
half man half woman half woman half man half
woman and feeling new new new new new new
and feeling all all all all all all all African in Durban.
