poetry

From "KaluluwA"
by J. Neil C. Garcia

XI

I come out of making love restored
to some purity of intention:
bordered on the outside by another skin,
I am hurtingly whole, my edges folded inward
to touch my heavy nature, the truth
at the center of my being
undeniably affirmed:

I am here and now, I want, I feel.

There is then that voiceless moment,
insignificant as it is,
I believe I am free of you,
who are mostly thought looking at itself,
repeating its desired imagelessness
to the point of invisibility.

The body loved is mortal, still,
but only love, which is the opposite of thinking,
can keep you away from me—

when we both, for once, may be at peace.
